We love wedding cake, but sometimes it just isn’t for everyone. Maybe you just aren’t the cake type. We completely get it! Even if you plan on having wedding cake chances are that after a long night of dancing and celebrating you will need a boost of energy. Which is why we put together a list of delicious dessert alternatives to help keep the party going and your sweet tooth satisfied!
Candy Bar – Candy bars are a fun way to allow guests to take a custom and delicious goody bag home from your wedding. Check out local bulk stores to purchase a variety of tasty treats at a low cost. Keep it elegant by sticking to a color palette that matches your wedding theme. Mix and match jars and vases to store all of the candy in a beautiful way. Don’t forget scoops and baggies to make selecting and transporting candy a breeze!
Comfort Food – After a night filled with dancing guests will get hungry – even after a seven course meal! Have tasty treats for guests to snack on throughout the night. Don’t be afraid to have fun with it, everyone loves a good classic! Some of our favorite combinations include cookies and milk, sliders and French fries, or even mini grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup shooters! Check with your caterer to see if they offer late night snack options. This simple treat can create that surprise element to your wedding that your guests won’t forget. Along with keeping tummies happy, this is also a way to keep guests energized!
S’mores Bar – Who doesn’t love toasting marshmallows over an open fire? If you are having an outdoor wedding, see if there is a way to incorporate a small fire pit. Many outdoor venues already have this option. Create the ultimate s’mores bar by having a variety of chocolates and cookies. Not only is it a fun activity for kids, adults will love it too!
Caffeine Station – When I got married, my husband and I were both working as baristas. To pay tribute to our love of coffee, we decided to have a coffee and tea bar. This turned out to be a HUGE hit! We had an assortment of local teas, a few different types of coffee, and all of the condiments you could ever need.
Cake Pops – While sitting down at your cake tasting were you having a tough time picking out a flavor for your cake? What if we told you that you didn’t have to have just one? Instead of one large cake, get an assortment of flavor combinations by requesting cupcakes or cake pops! Not only do they allow guests to try all of the delicious flavors you fell in love with, they are much easier to serve! Still have your heart set on a wedding cake? Do both! Get a small cake to cut along with tasty mini treats.
BYOC – Bring your own cookies! This was one of the most fun trends we saw all year. Ask close family and friends to each bring a batch or two of their own favorite homemade cookie. Nothing says “love” more than a delicious family recipe. Every recipe tells a story, and sharing those family recipes with guests is a great way to show them that you are grateful for spending this magical day with you.
Ice Cream – Food trucks are all the rage; it seems like a new unique truck is popping up everyday! You could even cater your entire wedding with one. Search around for local ice cream trucks. Many ice cream shops even have small carts they can use to cater events. Not many things taste as good as late night ice cream!
Cotton Candy – Who says cotton candy is reserved for the circus? We sure don’t! Treat your guests to a delicious and fluffy treat! Check with your caterer to see if they are able to provide a cotton candy service. If not, many party rental companies will carry everything you need! Want to add an elegant twist? Serve this treat on top of a glass of champagne!
Dessert in a Jar – Mason jars have been a huge trend in the wedding world. Why? Probably because they are adorable, affordable, and so versatile. Jars can be used as vases, candle holders, drinking glasses, and even dessert! Use food friendly oven safe jars to make serving and clean up a breeze!
Don’t be afraid to get creative with your wedding desserts! While wedding cakes are beautiful and delicious, they aren’t for everyone. This is your wedding day, so if you want to skip the tradition and take an alternate rout that is absolutely okay!
